You’ll notice that I was unable to put some artists into categories. It’s not as simple as it seems. Many artists painted in several different styles. Some artists really don’t fit a category at all. If you notice that I’ve missed someone, please comment and I’ll correct myself.

A very good initative!
That the time limits are closer at the end is normal. I wonder how they will be classified in a few centuries? Went to Paris' Modern Art Museum yesterday and - although I'm rather a fan of modern art - I asked myself the question what the art historians will say aobut certain of the exposed artists (if anything).
What will art historians say about current artists? That's a good question. I'll have to think about that a bit myself.
I think it will be easier to create broader categories when the artists creating right now are no longer around to object. It seems that anyone can start an art movement and call it whatever they want. The result is a hundred shortlived "movements" that aren't all that different than the others of the same time period.
Haven't you missed out Roman and Medievil Art?

I would really enjoy seeing Alphonse Mucha listed under the Art Nouveau artists, because he was probably the most influential of them all (and because he's my favorite!). But thanks for including Art Nouveau; for some reason, most people tend to skip over it.

Great list! You got some I would have forgotten. Some of my favorites that didn't make your list: Surrealism- Rene Magritte, Harlem Renaissance- Romare Bearden, and Pop Art- Claes Oldenburg. It will be a great tool for my Middle School Art students!
